Preparing your vehicle for the cross-country journey from Baltimore to Los Angeles is straightforward but important. Here's what you need to do:
Clean and Document: Wash your car inside and out before shipping. This makes it easier to spot any existing damage during the inspection. Take photos from multiple angles to document your vehicle's condition.
Remove Personal Items: Carriers aren't insured to transport personal belongings, and extra weight can affect shipping costs. Remove all loose items, toll passes, GPS devices, and anything hanging from your rearview mirror.
Check Fluids and Battery: Ensure your gas tank is only about 1/4 full (reduces weight and is safer), but make sure you have enough fuel for the driver to load and unload your vehicle. Check that your battery is fully charged and secure.
Disable Alarms: Turn off your car alarm to prevent it from going off during the 2,700-mile journey and draining your battery.
Secure or Remove Accessories: Retract or remove antennas, fold in mirrors, and take off any custom spoilers or other exterior accessories that could be damaged. If you have a convertible, make sure the top is secure.
Note Existing Damage: During pickup, you'll complete an inspection report with the driver. Point out any existing scratches, dents, or issues so they're properly documented.
