Cost factors

What moves the price of a Las Vegas shipment

Distance & lane

Longer cross-country runs from Las Vegas to New York or Florida usually take more carrier time and fuel than shorter lanes such as Dallas. That route difference can move the quote.

Season

Snowbird season can tighten carrier availability. Southern Nevada’s extreme summer heat and winter snow over mountain passes near Reno and Lake Tahoe can also slow schedules and affect carrier availability.

Vehicle size

SUVs, pickups and vans use more trailer space or weight capacity than sedans, which can raise the price. Accurate vehicle details help carriers quote the right space.

Pickup access

A truck may not be able to load inside a gated complex or on a tight residential street. Extra coordination or a nearby safe meeting point can affect dispatch and price.

Open vs enclosed

Enclosed transport adds protection and typically costs more than open transport. Your car’s value and exposure concerns can help determine which option fits.

Save money

5 ways to pay less (and wait less)

  1. Keep your pickup window flexible

Offer a few possible pickup dates for your Las Vegas shipment; flexibility can make it easier to match with an available carrier.

  2. Plan for gated access

If you live in a gated community in Summerlin North or Centennial Hills, arrange gate clearance and a truck-friendly meeting point before pickup.

  3. Share access details early

For Downtown Las Vegas or Historic Westside, explain driveway and street access so the carrier can plan a safe handoff spot.

  4. Check winter route plans

For a move to Reno or Sparks, ask the carrier to confirm its route plan across mountain passes, especially during winter weather.

  5. Choose transport to fit the car

Decide whether your vehicle needs enclosed service before requesting quotes; reserve it for a high-value or weather-sensitive car rather than choosing by default.

Moving to Las Vegas

Your Nevada car checklist

Planning a move into Las Vegas? Handle vehicle paperwork early alongside your delivery so you can register without scrambling.

  • License and registration deadline

New Nevada residents must get a Nevada driver’s license and register their vehicle within 30 days of moving. [NV DMV]

  • Prepare for title transfer

Get a free VIN inspection, Nevada insurance and, in Las Vegas or Reno areas, an emissions test. Bring your title (unless a lender holds it), current out-of-state registration and plates, and odometer reading to the DMV. [NV DMV]

  • Get Nevada insurance

Nevada requires 25/50/20 liability: $25,000 for one person’s injury, $50,000 for two or more, and $20,000 property damage per accident. Out-of-state policies aren’t accepted; use a Nevada-written policy. [NV DMV]

  • Check smog-test requirements

Smog checks apply yearly in urban Clark and Washoe counties to gas cars 1968 and newer and diesels up to 14,000 lbs. New vehicles skip first three registrations, hybrids first five model years; out-of-state tests don’t count. [NV DMV]

  • Know the inspection rule

Passenger cars don’t need regular safety inspections in Nevada; new residents need a one-time VIN inspection. [NV DMV]

  • Review window tint

Front side windows must let in at least 35% light, with a 7% tolerance, and cannot be reflective. Rear windows may be darker with mirrors on both sides; windshield tint is limited to the top strip. [NRS 484D.440]

FAQ

Las Vegas car shipping questions

How much does it cost to ship a car from or to Las Vegas?

For a running vehicle on open transport, the typical quote from Las Vegas is $975–$1,300, while shipping to Las Vegas is $900–$1,225. Those are the middle half of customer quotes on record, not a guaranteed rate. Your route, vehicle size, pickup access and choice of open or enclosed service can change the quote.

How long does car shipping to or from Las Vegas take?

For Las Vegas shipments, Dallas is estimated at 1–5 days, Chicago at 2–6, and New York or Miami at 4–9 days on the road. Transit starts after pickup; estimates aren’t guarantees, and pickup scheduling is separate. Southern Nevada heat and winter snow over passes near Reno and Lake Tahoe can slow schedules.

Is my car insured during transport?

SAKAEM works with FMCSA-licensed and insured carriers, which carry at least $1,000,000 in liability coverage and $100,000 in cargo insurance. Your carrier handles the shipment coverage, and you should review the vehicle’s condition with the driver at pickup. Ask SAKAEM to explain how coverage applies to your particular move.

Can I leave personal items in the car?

SAKAEM allows up to 100 lbs of personal items in the trunk or below the window line. Keep belongings secured and out of the driver’s workspace, and don’t leave valuables or loose items in the cabin. Hawaii ocean shipments are excluded.

Can you ship a non-running car?

SAKAEM can ship a non-running car if it rolls, brakes and steers, and comes with a key. Tell us its condition before booking so the carrier can plan the loading approach. SAKAEM does not ship boats.

How do I pay for car shipping?

You can pay by card, or pay the carrier by cash or certified check; Zelle and Venmo are also accepted. Confirm the payment method and timing before pickup so you know what is due to SAKAEM and what is paid to the carrier. There is no upfront deposit, and cancellation is free.

Do I need to be present at pickup?

A designated adult must be present at pickup and delivery to inspect the vehicle and sign the Bill of Lading. If you can’t attend, arrange for a trusted adult to meet the driver at both ends, with keys and access ready. Walk around the car together and record any existing marks before it leaves.
